The Nuts Turned to Junk
It's not very often that I play for real money
at poker, but I thought that I would try my luck at a co-worker's
poker home game. There was a $100 buy-in, this was definitely the
most money I have ever had invested in a poker game and still is
to this day. I was getting some good cards at the beginning of the
game and I was starting to make a decent amount of chips.
It was at this point in the game that I hit a
dry spell, nothing was coming up. That is how the game went for
a long time. I think that waiting would my weakest poker vice, I
get bored and I make stupid plays. This time I was being smart,
I had a big enough chip lead which made me not really care about
losing blinds that much.
I had the hand, pocket Kings. There was really no
question that I was going to be betting hard on this one. I had been
sitting on my hands for the last two hours it seemed and now the poker
gods were giving me something to work with.
The dealer dealt the flop and there was nothing
in there that could really help anyone, including myself. I made
a bet and I was surprised when someone raised me. What the heck
were they doing, there was no way that could beat me. I thought
I would be smart and I not called his uneducated raise and I went
all-in, of course he called me. I almost laughed out loud when I
saw his two and ten off-suited. There was a 10 on the board giving
him a pair, but they could not touch my kings.
When I saw the next card, things started to change.
I was now looking at two 10's on the board, giving my opponent three-of-a-kind.
I could not believe it and of course the river was not a King. I
had the forfeit my chips to an inferior hand.
I'm hoping I get a free ball cap out of this whole thing.
