How to Host Your Own Poker Night!
How to Manage Poker Chips
You'll need lots of
poker chips, as many as you can.
Lightweight plastic chips are fine and work just as well as any
other, but if you can afford it try to pick up some clay or clay-composite
chips, between 7.5 and 13.5 grams each for a more sophisticated
feel. you'll need at least 30 - 35 poker chips per player, but 50
chips is even better and 100 poker chips is ideal.
Decide in advance how much your chips are going
to be worth. They don't have to reflect the same amount that the
players have bought in for. In a casino it usually works like this:
| white |
$1 |
| red |
$5 |
| blue |
$10 |
| green |
$25 |
| black |
$100 |
You don't have to set up your chips this way,
though. If it's easier for the newer players you can use just one
or two values for the chips.
You'll also need a dealer
button for each table to show who the theoretical "dealer"
is for each hand. If you bought a nice chip set it probably came
with one, but if not you can buy them separately, or even just use
something else that's distinctive. But for a truly classy poker
night you should invest in a real one.
