How to Bet in Texas Holdem
When you're playing Texas Holdem betting is VERY
important. It's one of the most important aspects of the game. Here
I'm going to take you trought the basic betting structure, but consider
buying a book or two and reading up on it, because it really is
fascinating. ...I know, that sounds ridiculous, but it's true!
As you see in the How
to Play Texas Holdem section, there are four betting rounds
in a game of Holdem. The first two rounds are set to a lower betting
limit and the second two rounds are set at the higher limit. For
example, in a $10/$20 game (games will almost always have two numbers
set up like that), the minimum bet in the first two rounds (which
are after the Pocket cards have been dealt nd then again when the
first three community cards are laid on the table) is $10, and in
the second two rounds of betting (after the Turn and the "River")
betting limits go up to $10.
Players are only allowed to make four bets during
a betting round. These are:
- Bet
- Raise
- Re-raise
- Cap (this is another raise, but after this
the player's option to bet is "capped." After this point
players only have the option of calling or folding.)
**NOTE: there is no limit to the number of raises
and in "No-Limit" and "Pot-Limit" games.
